New Life to Brixham Pool from Sport England
Brixham Swimming Pool in Devon has been given new life thanks to a rescue and refurbishment project by Brixham Community Lifestyle and Aquatic Company Limited.
The project team included architects Kay Elliott, local designer Paul Bradfield, Coyd Construction, Scott Wilson building services engineers and structural experts Howick Consultants.
With just £670,000 funding from Sport England, the team has extended the life of this important community facility by 25 years.
Extensive work has been undertaken including: a new roof to give better insulation and overcome condensation problems; the reconstruction of an external wall on one side of the building due to steel corrosion; new windows; new cedar cladding on the outside of the building; and the upgrading of heating and ventilation systems. In addition, an internal refurbishment has been undertaken including new tiling around the pool, and a small extension to the front of the building has provided new office accommodation for staff.
A spoksman for Brixham Community Lifestyle and Aquatic Company Limited said: “We are very grateful to Sport England for helping us to safeguard the future of this important community facility. It now offers better facilities including a new community room, which will allow people to come together and socialise.”
Steve Armstrong at Kay Elliot added: “Within such a tight budget, a great deal has been achieved. Teamwork and collaboration enabled us to come up with excellent solutions to make sure that the building has a long life and that facilities are improved for everyone – staff, members and visitors. The community now has a far superior facility and we are proud to have been involved.”
