Tea for three with Kay Elliott

Local architectural practice Kay Elliott today entertained Marine Gardens and the Mayor of Torbay.

Local architectural practice Kay Elliott today entertained Russian client, Marine Gardens, and the Mayor of Torbay, Nick Bye, treating them to afternoon tea at the Imperial Hotel. The Mayor wanted to learn about Marine Garden’s exciting new development called Marine Ocean World, which will provide a leisure park, aquarium, hotel, shopping mall and business centre, close to the city centre.

The gem of the scheme is the aquarium, which has been designed by Kay Elliott and which will be the largest in Russia, CIS and Eastern Europe. It will have the largest Ocean Tank display in all of Europe with almost 10 million litres of seawater, and the deepest Ocean Tank in all of Europe at 12.6 m deep. The aquarium completes at the end of 2009 and the entire scheme opens to the public in 2011, when it will serve a potential 16 million visitors.

Mayor Nick Bye said: “It was a great pleasure to meet a company that is building the next great attraction in Russia for residents and tourists. In Torbay, we have also undertaken numerous projects that provide a great day out for local residents and attract new and more visitors to the region, and it was great to share our stories.

“I am also very proud that a successful local firm is delivering such excellent work for so many clients worldwide, from Living Coats in Torbay to Marine Ocean World in Russia. Kay Elliott is an inspiration to the business community,” he added.

Derek Elliott, founder of Kay Elliott, said: “With our Russian clients visiting our offices in Torquay, we saw an opportunity to forge new relationships, between a company devoted to creating one of Russia’s premier tourist attractions and the South West, which has so much to offer. Learning from the experiences of companies in other countries is an excellent way to come up with new ideas to achieve Torbay’s ambition to create a great place to live, work and play. We are proud to be a part of it.”
