Moscow Aquarium
A brand new aquarium designed by Kay Elliott is part of a wider entertainment complex which anchors a 300 million USD mixed use scheme in Moscow city. It will bring visitors to view the oceans of the world in one of the worlds largest aquaria.
Client: Marine Gardens Moscow
Cost: approx 50 million USD
Completion: The aquarium is part of a large mixed use complex, due to open in 2012
The 180,000 sq m Moscow Ocean Complex comprises an aquarium, entertainment centre, luxury hotel, retail centre, restaurants, cafes, bars, health spa and business park.
Kay Elliott have designed the 24,000 sq m aquarium, which will house in excess of 6,000 exhibits in more than 11,000,000 litres of water. The main ocean tank, 10m deep, will alone contain three submerged acrylic walkways. Saltwater and freshwater exhibits represent every ocean and species of fish in the world and natural habitats for birds, mammals and reptiles will create a unique experience of air, land and sea.
Kay Elliott is no stranger to complex aquaria projects. We were the architect for the 25 million pound Ocean World in Shanghai, a stunning aquarium actually under the lake, which, 10 years after opening, still attracts over a million visitors per year.
