Ibis Styles Paignton brings a fresh energy to the English Riviera, redefining the seafront with a playful, design-led hotel inspired by the ever-changing boundary between land and sea.

From the earliest planning stages through to completion, Kay Elliott shaped the architecture and interiors of this £30m development, creating 121 guestrooms alongside a bar, restaurant, and wellness spa. The design concept - 'Shorelines' - captures the fleeting beauty of the boundary of land and see: ripples, reflections, shadows, and organic textures echo the way the sea leaves its mark on the sand. Externally, the hotel contributes to the wider seafront regeneration, balancing contemporary coastal character with a scale and rhythm that sits comfortably alongside its neighbour, the Mercure Paignton. The result is a vibrant retreat that welcomes both leisure and business travellers while strengthening Paignton’s role as a year-round destination.

“As the first of its kind in the ibis Styles collection, our hotel represents a truly unique offering for Paignton; a fresh, vibrant and playful space where creativity meets comfort with a splash of fun.”

Guestrooms at Ibis Styles Paignton take inspiration from the ever-changing shoreline, with ocean-inspired textures, playful artwork, and layered finishes that echo the ripples, patterns, and treasures of the coast. Designed as a contemporary coastal retreat, each space balances comfort with character, creating a relaxing base by the sea.

Visual: Kay Elliott

The exterior of Ibis Styles Paignton reinterprets the character of the seafront with a fresh, contemporary coastal aesthetic. Clean lines and a playful palette echo the movement of the shoreline, while the building’s form frames sea views and complements its neighbour, the Mercure. Together, the two hotels create a striking new landmark for the English Riviera.
