Bognor Regis - an ambition to reinvigorate the seaside experience

Kay Elliott’s urban design team have revealed plans for the future regeneration of Bognor Regis in West Sussex.

The Seaside town’s renaissance continues to gather pace with the endorsement from Arun Council. The findings of the feasibility report by the award-winning professional team, were presented by leading regeneration consultancy Urban Delivery following work considering development options for the sites carried out by the team, including Arup, Petersham Group, Quartet and Chilmark.

Karl Roberts, Director of Place at Arun District Council explains: “This study encapsulates the bold and innovative thinking we feel is needed to unlock the full potential of Bognor Regis. These sites have been waiting too long for the redevelopment proposed and the time is now right to make it happen.”

The scheme which focuses on reconnecting the town centre to the seafront, alongside combining destinations to attract all year round visitors, is fundamental to the options developed within the feasibility study by Urban Delivery.

Central to the proposal is the 3,000m² contemporary Winter Garden on the Regis Centre site, incorporating a new theatre, a rolling cultural programme, restaurants and new hotel.

In addition, to the west, residential development is centred around a new linear park for the Hothamton car park site which proposes significant improvements to the public realm focused on pedestrian movement from the railway station towards the promenade and onto the Regis Centre.
