Detailed Planning Approval for New Hotel in Salcombe

Our proposal for the refurbishment and extension of the Tides Reach Hotel in Salcombe has been granted planning consent by South Hams District Council. Situated in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the design required delicate balancing of visual impact with several other key planning and site constraints.

Conceived principally as two interlocking pitched roof forms, running perpendicular to the water’s edge, the design echoes the traditional boat building structures, sail lofts and boat houses seen along the estuary. This design approach takes advantage of the remarkable views across the estuary to East Portlemouth, whilst minimising the proposal’s visual impact.

The new 44 key guestroom wing, restaurant, bar and spa facilities will be enhanced further by a significant landscape proposal incorporating external dining terraces, setting the hotel and its visitors around a unique natural pond.
