Hollicombe Brake

Client: Midas ( Linden) Homes

This contemporary housing regeneration project of the former Hollicombe Gas Works provides187 dwellings and substantial new areas of public realm and shared space.

This much needed brownfield site project sits upon a former gas works, redundant since the 1970’s. Kay Elliott's scheme comprises 187 one, two and three-bed apartments across four buildings of up to six storeys, a community facility to build cohesion and a hectare of new public open space linking the countryside to the sea.

An extensive landscaped corridor provides new public open space and reinstates green linkage from the sea to open countryside beyond. To the south of the scheme is proposed a large shared use space.

The buildings are arranged to encourage interaction and use of the parkland setting; both for recreation and access. The palette of materials including red stone facade closely references the local Permian Sandstone drawing upon the English Riviera Geopark status.
